AITSL Standard 6 - Engage in professional learning

6.1 Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the national Professional Standards for Teachers in identifying professional learning needs.

The standards have been established to ensure uniformity regarding the expectations required in order to meet the needs of school children with in Australia. Theses standards are based upon ongoing extensive educational research. Overall they are aimed at providing guidelines as to the acceptable minimum standards required by the teaching profession, highlighting the need to abide by the morals and values that are accepted within society as defined by the laws and morals of this country.
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice.
Understand the relevant and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers.

Evidence: Attended and learnt from Professional development days held within the school community in Broome.
Apply the key principles described in the code of ethics and conduct of the teaching profession. PD is about creating a culture of quality and providing feedback & growth for all teachers in all schools to ensure up to date best practice within our school system. Refer:  http://www.selfassessment.aitsl.edu.au
6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practices. Seek and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers to improve teaching.
Evidence: Communicated with and sought out collegial support. Attended PD's and observed the teaching and learning in different classrooms and grade levels.

Teaching qualities and standards will continually improve as a result of PD. The knowledge of many is greater than the knowledge of one. A compatible functional team will generally produce better results then one individual working in isolation especially in todays world where knowledge and change are greater than ever.
